Operations Profitability Specialist

Job Description

Operations is looking to assign a specialist to focus on opportunities to improve profitability.  Over the past 2 years we have seen a lot of opportunity in the areas of spot freight and managing our commitments with customers.  That has been a part of the load planners and CAC’s existing job functions, but we would like to increase our focus on these areas by assigning one person to monitor customer spot boards and look for other opportunities as well to improve our overall Operations efficiencies.

Core Responsibilities

• Search for load opportunities with customer partners like Caterpillar and others using online bidding sites.
• Search for load opportunities with 3PL partners (thinking a TMC or possibly RXO type that is not exactly a direct broker).
• As time allows look for brokered loads to help keep drivers moving.
• The primary focus with this position is looking for spot freight as opposed to transactional broker freight.
• We would like this person to be searching for both van and open deck freight.
• There would have to be a measure of coordination with both the load planners for each type of freight as well as the CAC’s for each account. One aspect yet to be determined is whether the customer service part of the job should be managed by the person in this position or by the people who currently manage those individual accounts.

Secondary Responsibilities

• There will be times that this person steps in to “fill-in” certain Ops roles for short-term situations, e.g. someone takes a vacation and that area of the department is short-handed or a new account is starting up and needs special care
• The full scope of this position is still being established but there will likely be some regional planning responsibilities.
